FSK streamlined resources now available

Resources are now available for the FSK Foundation Skills Training Package. Units of competency for the following qualifications are available:
  • FSK10113  Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways
  • FSK10213  Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways
  • FSK20113  Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways

NCVER students and courses

NCVER have released the preliminary figures for the number of students, subject enrolments, hours of delivery and full-year training equivalents relating to Australia’s government-funded (public) vocational education and training (VET) system for 2014. NCVER apprentices and trainees

NCVER have reported on the number of apprentices and trainees in training nationally in the December 2014 quarter, which decreased 18.3% from the December 2013 quarter. The 2014 quarterly data also shows commencements, completions, cancellations and withdrawals declined in comparison with the December quarter 2013. Apprentices and trainees 2014 – December quarter

Employment Services Consultation now live

CS&HISC have opened the public consultation of Employment Services units of competency and qualifications. 6 units of competency and the Certificate IV in Employment Services are under consultation. Feedback can be provided via the CS&HISC web portal until 3 July 2015. Provide feedback here

WorkReady

The announcement of WorkReady by the South Australian government has caused great controversy in the training sector with the majority of funding allocated to TAFE SA. ACPET and Assistant Education Minister Simon Birmingham have both suggested that the $65 million in training funds should be withheld until the SA government consults with industry to work towards a more contestable training market.  

Jobactive service providers

The new jobactive scheme will replace Job Services Australia contracts on 30 June 2015. The successful organisations that will be delivering services under jobactive have been announced. Find the list of jobactive organisations, Work for the Dole Coordinators and New Enterprise Incentive Scheme organisations at employment.gov.au.  

Skillaroos announced for WorldSkills comp

The 2015 Skillaroos team to represent Australia in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in Brazil has been announced. Our team of 25 Skillaroos will compete against 59 countries represented by 1,176 experts and over 1,200 competitors. Held from 11-16 August at Anhembi Exhibition Centre in São Paulo, Brazil. The Skillaroos will compete in 23 skills categories in the hope of taking home a gold medal for their country. Various events are taking place in the build-up to the WorldSkills competition, visit the website to see what’s happening and support the team.

Pre-released CHC and HLT Training Package

CS&HISC have released the training package drafts which they submitted for endorsement to the Department of Education and Training. Copies of the draft documents can be found on the CS&HISC website. All documents will remain DRAFT until released on the National Register, www.training.gov.au. Once the new training packages are endorsed we strive to have resources available as quickly as possible.

IBSA Environmental Scan

IBSA have released their 2015 environmental scans, combining direct industry intelligence with data on training and industry workforces. A detailed analysis of the influences on workforce development and skills demand is also included. The leading document IBSA’s Escan 2015 Predicting change- skills for the future is now available, as well as a report for each training package sector:

Coordinating Council for International Education announced

The Australian Government has established a Coordinating Council for International Education to oversee the finalisation of a national strategy for international education and the development of an implementation plan. The Council will convene two roundtables on 18 June 2015 and 13 August 2015 with the goal to ensure that the final strategy represents a shared national vision and responsibility. Find out more

First Australian Industry and Skills Committee meeting held

The newly established Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) held their inaugural meeting in Melbourne on Tuesday 9 June 2015. Assistant Minister for Education and Training, Senator Simon Birmingham, said “This meeting is an important milestone in the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Industry and Skills Council’s commitment to streamline governance arrangements for the VET sector. The AISC replaces a plethora of committees that had led to confusion in the management of the nation’s VET system.” View media release
